Jacks Knob

I went to the mountains today with Ryan to see the leaves. I bought this long Appalachian trail map. Ive been looking at this map since I got home tonight-thinking maybe this is what I want in life-I want to hike the whole Appalachian trail. I got to thinking about being 30 years old and I am supposed to work full-time now, until I'm atlas 60, right? So where is the time to do hike the 2,181 miles? By the time Im retired or the older I get the more difficult that hike would be maybe? Life is backwards man. Like Charlie Wood says "we all gotta go down in the ground" But nah I don't think I really care about hiking the whole damn thing. I enjoy the time I spend outdoors and thats enough...i think. But I get all these dreams in my head when looking at that trail map. Google just said it costs about 1,000 a month- When I get to the end of the trail, so what? I think id just feel like Forest Gump- "Im pretty tired of runnin', think ill go home now" But like those old Patagonia guys says in 180 Degres South, its not about the end, its about the journey?

This road sign made me think of the recent events in my life. My life has taken a sudden turn and i cannot see around the corner- do not know where Im headed

On Jacks Knob trail today I found an old Blue helium Baloon. I used it on the trail in hopes of protecting Ryan and I from getting shot by hunters. I stuck it in the outside of my pack. We laughed at how unprepared we actually were for todays hike. No bear spray, snake bite kit, not reflector vests.

Im getting excited thinking about Petty Johns Cave next week. I need to pick up a helmet, knee pads and lots of paracord

Nana and I looked at it tonight. She told me stories about her and granddad in the Appalachian. Granddad said "You and your damn clouds" I guess granddad got real tired of driving in the mountains in Virgina in the fog and could not see-afraid of driving off the road he was! haha! Nana told ,me a story about a woman who came in off the Appalachail trail and her hair was frozen. The woman asked nana to reach in her bag and pull something out. Nana said she was really dirty and nana was afraid to put her hand down in the woman's pack.
